Work through the steps in order. Each one unlocks the next. Keep the car on a charger and leave everything plugged in.
2Helper app
Download and run the helper on the PC with the ENET cable, then click Connect.
Double-click the downloaded app and leave its window open. Chrome or Edge recommended.
Tick all four boxes to enable Connect. This service only works with a wired ENET cable and an iDrive 7 head unit in diagnostic mode, and it resets your coding.
3Car
Ignition on (engine off), battery charger connected, ENET cable plugged in.
4Back up your original coding
Saves your head unit's complete original coding to Documents\iDriveApps\car-backups
on your PC, using the verified tool. Read-only, and free: this never uses an installation.
Required before root SSH (step 5), which changes your coding. You restore it in step 6.
Keep the car on a charger and don't unplug anything.
5Enable root SSH
Enables developer root SSH on the head unit and saves a private key and a ready
ssh command to Documents\iDriveApps\ssh-keys on your PC, using the verified tool.
This is what lets us install apps in step 7.
Fix key: use this if SSH connects
(port 22 open) but login is refused with Permission denied (publickey). On some units
the head unit stores a different key, so the one we enrolled is rejected. Fix key re-installs the
correct key into the unit's real authorized-keys file. You normally won't need it: if we detect that
exact symptom during flashing or a status check, we run Fix key for you automatically.

6Restore coding from backup
Root SSH (step 5) changes your coding, so put your original coding back here. This writes your saved backup to the head unit exactly as it was. Root SSH stays enabled (it lives in a separate region). Free: this never uses an installation. Keep the car on a charger.
7Install apps
Installs the MGU Store onto your head unit over the root SSH from
step 5, using the verified mgu-install tool. Afterwards you browse and install apps
straight from the Store tile on the car's screen, from GitHub repos, web links or a USB
stick. Uses 1 installation.
Requires root SSH enabled (step 5). Your PC needs an internet connection the first time: the Store and its components are downloaded, checked by size and SHA-256, then sent to the car.
Done — the MGU Store is installed. You can now use it: open the Store tile on the car's screen to browse and install apps.
To give the Store internet, connect a phone to the car's USB port:
- Plug an Android phone or iPhone into the car's USB port.
- On the phone, turn on USB tethering (Android: Settings → Network → Hotspot & tethering → USB tethering; iPhone: Settings → Personal Hotspot → Allow Others to Join).
- When the phone asks, tap Trust (iPhone: "Trust This Computer").
- The MGU Store will ask you to reboot the head unit — let it reboot.
After it reboots, open the Store and install whatever apps you want.
